Blue Coat RA appliances allow organisations to extend rich application connectivity with integrated endpoint security to remote employees, partners and customers. A single solution for both corporate-owned and unmanaged devices, Blue Coat RA appliances leverage the industry's only application-independent proxy architecture and patent-pending Connector technology to provide:

• On-demand access to Web and non-Web applications without the installation of VPN client software
• Comprehensive support for unmanaged endpoints (such as partner desktops and home PCs) without ever requiring local admin rights and including features to block inadvertent or malicious information leakage

Integrated endpoint security services, such as host integrity checking and automatic spyware identification and suppression.

Unlike traditional SSL VPNs that require port forwarding and network-layer clients to support many mission-critical enterprise applications, Blue Coat RA utilises the Blue Coat RA Connector to provide a single access mode for Web and non-Web applications. The RA Connector, which is completely transient (nothing to install or uninstall), never requires local admin rights or a system reboot. And, because it's designed to be application independent, the RA Connector delivers on demand connectivity to all TCP and UDP applications that meet the following four conditions:

1. Application client initiates communication (e.g., Outlook contacting Exchange)

2. Application client can be launched (or re-launched) after RA Connector has loaded.

3. Application must be running in user's environment (e.g., not a system service)

4. Application cannot access internal file shares via drive mapping or UNC specification (such as S:\filename or \\server\filename)

If the application (Web or non-Web, off-the-shelf or proprietary, new or legacy) meets these conditions, RA will support it. No client software. No admin rights.
